PROF. HERBERT VILAKAZI IS DIES 26 JANUARY 2016
One of South Africa’s leading sociologists, a foremost scholar in Marxism /Leninism and prolific public intellectual, Professor Herbert Vilakazi passed away in the afternoon of 26 January 2016, a few months short of his 73rd birthday. Professor Vilakazi was born in Nongoma, Zululand in 1943.

School of Information Studies professor emerita Marta L. Dosa passed away on January 8th, 2015 at the age of 91. Marta joined Syracuse University in 1962 and retired in 1996, about five years before I arrived at the iSchool. I did get the chance to meet and speak with her a couple of times during my early years at the school.

ANC STALWART RUTH MOMPATI DIES
JOHANNESBURG – ANC stalwart and former MP, ambassador and mayor Ruth Mompati has died after a short illness, ANC deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte told ANA. A former typist at Mandela Tambo attorneys, leader of the anti-pass law march on August 9 1956 and a negotiator at the Groote Schuur talks in 1990, Mompati was 90.
FORMER COVENTRY STRIKER STEVE “KALAMAZOO” MOKONE DIES AGED 82
Steve Mokone, the first black South African to play professional football in Europe, has passed away at the age of 82, his family has confirmed. Known as “Kalamazoo”, the former Coventry City , Heracles, Cardiff, Barcelona, Marseille and Torino striker had been battling ill health for several years having moved to the USA on his retirement in the 1960s.
MINISTER OF PUBLIC SERVICE AND ADMINISTRATION, MR. OHM COLLINS CHABANE DIES IN CAR ACCIDENT
Ohm Collins Chabane was born on 15 April 1960 in Xikundu, Transvaal, and now Limpopo Province.
He was a South African politician of the African National Congress (ANC). From May 2009 to May 2014 he was Minister to the President for performance monitoring, evaluation and administration of the President. 2014, he was appointed Minister of Public Service and Administration.

ORBITUARY OF SISTER BERNARD NCUBE (1935 – 2012)
Sister Bernard Ncube was born to Benedict Khosi Ncube and Annah Dichia Ncube in Edenvale in 1935.
One of the 11 siblings, her family was forcibly removed to Dube, Soweto; perhaps a felony that ignited a sense of disgust over the then apartheid system of separate development.
