2012 is here!

I would like to wish my loyal readers, colleagues and dear friends a blessed, prosperous and very happy new year. 2012 is a leap year so we have been blessed with an additional day to make a difference in the world. This year is the Year of the Dragon which is very auspicious to our Chinese friends.

The United Nations General Assembly designated 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives, highlighting the contribution ofcooperatives to socio-economic development, in particular recognizing their impact on poverty reduction, employment generation and social integration; it is also designated as the International Year of Sustainable Energy for all.

It has also been designated Alan Turing Year, commemorating the mathematician, computer pioneer, and code-breaker on the centennial of Turing’s birth.

Let us gather our renewed energies after a long festive break and embrace this year. Let this year be the one where you give back to the environment, and let us take care of Mother Earth and its children.
